University of Amsterdam and TU Delft rank among top 20 best computer science institutions in Europe according to CSRankings

Computer Science education is the foundational block for a successful career in technology. The value of learning computer science is evident from all the tech companies that have disrupted our world right now. The University of Amsterdam and TU Delft have ranked among the top 20 best institutions for computer science in Europe when we look at the data of the past five years.

From 2016 to 2021, CSRankings has rated the University of Amsterdam and TU Delft as among the best for computer science education in Europe.

CSRankings is a metrics-based ranking of top computer science institutions around the world, based on the number of publications by faculty that have appeared at the most selective conferences in each area of computer science.

University of Amsterdam and TU Delft lead computer science education institutions

While finding a great startup or a technology leader is a piece of cake in the Netherlands, it is now equally easy to find a leading educational institution. With the University of Amsterdam and TU Delft ranking among top 20 institutions, Dutch students need not look for education abroad to accelerate their career in the field of technology. These institutions not only offer great courses but also established faculty.

CSRankings found that the University of Amsterdam had a geometric mean of 10.6 papers published across all areas. With 17 faculty having published in these areas, the country’s premier institution is leading the way for Dutch students aspiring an enterprising career in the field of technology. TU Delft follows with a geometric mean of 4.9 papers published by 21 faculty across all the areas. While the University of Amsterdam leads in machine learning, TU Delft is paving the way for Artificial Intelligence as the most important topic of learning.

The University of Amsterdam also ranks among the top 50 for computer science education globally. While China’s Tsinghua University leads, the University of Amsterdam is in the close company of institutions such as University of Tokyo, Johns Hopkins University and University of California – Santa Barbara. With expanded interest in the use of AI and new technologies by the Dutch government, the University of Amsterdam is poised to leapfrog further in this ranking.

Technion is the leader for AI in Europe

It should not come as a surprise though that Israel’s Technion has been ranked the top university for Artificial Intelligence in Europe. The CSRankings considered metrics such as computer vision and natural web processing to reach this conclusion. With a geometric mean of 16.7 papers published across all areas and a faculty count of 44 who have published papers, the Israel Institute of Technology is setting a new benchmark for computer science education.

With 46 researchers engaged in core AI fields and more than 100 researchers working on related fields such as health and medicine, autonomous vehicles, cybersecurity and fintech, Technion has managed to maintain its leadership in computer science for institutions in Europe. CSRankings show that the university located in Haifa serves more than 13,000 students.
