Why Companies Are Stuck in Yesterday - and How to Build an AI-Driven Organization Ready for Tomorrow

In the average organization, most of the day revolves around one thing: solving problems that already existed yesterday. This behavior bottlenecks your future. To become an agentic, AI-driven organization, you must fundamentally rethink how you operate.

Er wordt eindeloos vergaderd over achterstallige taken, ad-hoc issues worden prioritair, en teams rennen van deadline naar deadline. Maar er is één probleem: dit gedrag remt je toekomst.

In an average organization, the majority of the day revolves around one thing: solving problems that already existed yesterday. There are endless meetings about overdue tasks, ad-hoc issues become priorities, and teams rush from deadline to deadline. But there is one problem: this behavior bottlenecks your future.

Because while you are busy with yesterday, AI is busy with tomorrow. The organizations that think ahead today are laying the foundation for their competitive advantage the day after tomorrow. Companies that remain stuck in short-term thinking will irrevocably fall behind. If you want to become an agentic, AI-driven organization, you must shift immediately. This doesn't mean slight optimization or implementing an AI tool here and there, but fundamentally rethinking how your organization works.

There are two domains you must build upon simultaneously:
    (1) your operating model of the future

    (2) your strategic innovation power.

    1. The New Operating Model: What Your Organization Looks Like When AI is Structurally Deployed

The biggest misconception about AI is that it is an ‘extra tool.’
In reality, AI is a new foundation for your organization.

AI doesn't change what we do but how we do everything

Process-driven work will increasingly be performed by AI. Think of:

    • Customer contact
    • Internal documentation
    • Data analysis
    • Reporting
    • Marketing production
    • Planning and scheduling
    • Operational workflows
    • Internal communication
    • Quality controls
    • Sales support

This is not about small efficiency gains. This is about a completely new operating model.

The question every company must answer now

What does our organization look like when:

    • 60–80% of repetitive tasks are handled by AI?
    • we always have access to accurate information 24/7?
    • decisions are made faster, data-driven, and flawlessly?
    • teams no longer waste time on administrative burdens?
    • customers are helped the same day automatically?

That requires redesigning your processes. Not tweaking. Not patching. But redesigning.

AI Agents as the Core of Your Daily Operations

An agentic organization works with AI Agents that:

    • perform tasks autonomously
    • retrieve, process, and analyze information
    • maintain context across multiple steps
    • collaborate with humans and other agents
    • continuously improve as they receive more data

This means that every team from HR to marketing and from finance to operations will have different duties. People become less executors and more directors, creative, strategic, and controlling.

    2. Strategy & Innovation: Reinventing Your Company Before the Market Does It for You

In addition to redesigning your operations, you must work on a more fundamental question:

If AI takes over most of our processes… what becomes our new added value?

Organizations that think about this now are creating their future. The rest will be overtaken by AI-native competitors who move faster, have lower costs, and can scale exponentially.

The big questions leaders must ask today

    • What can we create if we are no longer limited by capacity?
    • Which new products and services now become feasible?
    • How can we enter markets that were previously unreachable?
    • Which ambitions can we finally realize thanks to AI?
    • What will be our new competitive advantage?
    • Which customer problems can we solve that we currently cannot?

Innovation becomes much more important than optimization

Where companies may now spend 80% of their time on operations and 20% on innovation, this must shift to:

    • 60% innovation & strategy
    • 40% operational rebuilding with AI

The greatest risks for companies no longer lie in inefficient processes, but in the lack of a future-oriented model. AI accelerates innovation cycles, enables new business models, and turns existing markets upside down.

The 60/40 Rule: How to Ensure You Move Forward Instead of Falling Behind

To truly transform, you must allocate time differently. The companies growing fastest in an AI-driven world use this ratio:

    🔹 60% of your time:

    • Strategy
    • Innovation
    • New business models
    • New value propositions
    • Experimenting with AI
    • Future-proof thinking

    🔹 40% of your time:

    • Redesigning processes
    • Implementing AI Agents
    • Automation
    • Training and scaling
    • Reorganizing teams
    • Modernizing internal workflows

This mix ensures that you don't just become more efficient, but also more relevant, faster, smarter, and future-proof.
